The two Mars Rovers, Opportunity and Spirit, working on opposite sides of the planet, have already achieved their shared goal: to find evidence of liquid water on the barren world. Although they didn't find actual glistening pools of Martian water, they did discover strong evidence that Mars was once a world drenched in water, with rivers and streams flowing into larger basins and perhaps even an ocean or two. Important questions remain unanswered: Where did the water go? How long was it on the planet? And, because water is one of the key elements needed for life as we know it, was there -- is there -- life on that hunk of rock next door?TrackBack URL for this entry:

"hello I am 15 an I have 2 do a report on mar's and is there anyone who can give me information on mar's?" You gotta be kidding me. We're in big trouble if that's a real question from a real person. Forget a manned mission to Mars. Future scientists will be launching expeditions into grammar and punctuation books to determine if ever there was a time that an apostrophe was NOT included in the name of the red planet, "mar's".

Sounds like a school teacher somewhere has set up a class assignment about Mars. Who knows - this may inspire one of the kids to be the first man or woman on Mars. Most of my generation will be too old to go in the late 2020's.

I definitiely agree with the class project for Mars concept and of other sciences as well.
You are probably also right in that they will must likely be the first astronauts to Mars.
AS far as being to old That will only depend on how fast the vision can be implemented. But if keeping to the SEI vision timeline as the president stated is held as hard fast unchanging then we will be old and will miss the chance.
I still feel that a suborbital flight is not worth the cost but probably doable if the xprize ever does have some winners that keep that vision going. As well as the cost to fly going down rather than up. At this point SpaceShipOne looks like it will be the winner but the owner has said little about continuing flights after the prize has been won.

Folks, if you have a specific question about Mars, you can use the "Contact" link at the top of the page, or email me by clicking on my name. If you choose to post a comment asking your question, be sure to include your email address so that people can reply back to you.
Asking questions like "I need some help on my report" are not very descriptive and may not be effective in getting an answer from myself or Dustin, or any of our helpful readers.
