Spirit Encounters New Communication Problem

According to a daily briefing note made available to SpaceDaily.com NASA's Mars Exploration Rover A - Spirit - is having communication problems. The current information available suggests the problems are not overly critical and can probably be fixed. However the root cause of the problem remains unknown.

I believe that they recently did a software update to allow for them to navigate more by them self.

Zach, JWeikle: Here is something that sort gets me going with anger towards Nasa's decision making process.

NOAA Deactivates GOES-8 After 10 Years of Service

NOAA will boost GOES-8 into an orbit 350 kilometers above its original geostationary position, where it will be deactivated and disposed safely in three controlled burns.

If we can boost it's orbit and still have fuel for deorbit burns. Why can we not recycle this unit for mars use instead. Putting it on a slow ride to Mars or for use to the moon I think has some value. I am not sure of all the instruments that the satelite has but it has a high resolution camera I think from all the photos of storms.
