The Mars rover Opportunity has discovered hints of a type of rock never before seen on the planet. Its presence would mean that any watery periods in Mars' past were cold and short-lived. Opportunity has been perched on the rim of a 130-metre wide crater dubbed Endurance since early May. It has been using its remote sensing instruments to study the rocks exposed in the steep sides of the crater.TrackBack URL for this entry:

A robot with the characteristics to enter and exit hard terrains may be a challenge.
Last night I was observing a shell movements in my salt water tank, and this interesting creature moved slowly with its tiny legs, climbed from one rock to other as a master of gravity; first it placed two legs on one rock that its about a quater of an inch apart from the other rock, then it complete the tranfer so easy as if in its first legs was vacuum to hold its body while the tranfer was on process. It is amazing how one tiny creature has the ability that spirit and oportunity don't have; possesing those abilities perhaps the challenge for the robots would be different.
