Bigelow Aerospace to Tackle Inflatable Space Habitats

Posted by tourdemars to Inflatables at May 24, 2004 09:31 AM

Making "space available" is at the heart of the global travel, tourist and lodging industry. That business axiom is no stranger to Robert Bigelow, owner of the Budget Suites of America Hotel Chain. But now the North Las Vegas, Nevada-based Bigelow is putting his money down on inflatable Earth orbiting modules. He’s intent on attracting not only high-flying sightseers, but those hungering to crank out made-in-space products and evaluate microgravity processes. Bigelow’s plan is to establish a habitable commercial space station for research, manufacturing, entertainment and other uses.

So where can we get the all so cute, I've been to Bigelow Space Budget suite.

What kind of shielding can an inflatable unit give from space debri? Might be fine for a Greenhouse but not for people.

AS ILC dover and hamilton sunstrand as well as various others have shown, the inflatables are more capable, then their grandfather units in handling space debris.

check out their sites do the reasearch.

inflatables are very safe as well as durable.

once breached some test have shown self sealing capabilaties even when pressurized.

ilc dover would be a great place to start your research, then go to Bigelow. they are on the right track.

for longivity, the units i would send to mars would be the inflatables.

as for cosmic sheilding, the microfibers that are interwoven into the fabrics, make it safe for all occupents. though i dont know all the names of these fibers, they are more radiation resistant for astronauts! better than whats being used for the shuttle astronauts!

my hat is off for Bigelow and their continued stride, the world is waching!
