Posted by tourdemars to Mars Exploration Rovers at June 15, 2004 11:24 PM

The Mars rover Spirit has developed a problem with one of its six wheels, but NASA officials said Tuesday they believe the robot geologist can continue working. The right front wheel has become balky, requiring more electrical current to turn, said Mark Adler, the mission manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

As for the stake in the ground I think the real proble is where is the source of this emense amount of money in addition to the gross amount it represents.

> Who is there left if no Nasa?
Michael Mealling noted these companies:
"Boeing, Lockmart, SpaceX, Scaled Composites, SpaceDev, Transorbital, JP Aerospace, Kistler Aerospace, SeaLaunch, Pioneer Rocketplane, Space Adventures, ZeroG, AeroAstro, Bigelow Aerospace, XCOR, LunaCorp, The Lunar Resources Company, Tether's Unlimited, Liftport"

Not one of these companies are doing anything for the space vision outside of a small amount of R&D. They are contractors for Nasa and very large businesses.
The russian with the help of space adventures is closurre to providing rides for 20 million than any of these companies at this time which have no man rated vehicles.

"Given all of that you should be asking why NASA should be allowed to waste any more of our tax money."

I guess the real waste is why has Nasa not been able to do more for the amounts they have recieved over the decades since Apollo.
