Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise will bring the classic H.G. Wells alien-invasion novel, "The War of the Worlds", to the big screen, with Cruise expected to star, according to Variety magazine. The movie version has been accelerated onto a fast track, with only 10 weeks of pre-production scheduled before the film goes into shooting later this year. DreamWorks and Paramount are co-financing "War of the Worlds" which is expected to cost around or over $100 million --with both Cruise and Spielberg opting out of fees in favor of a share of the gross. "War" is now on track for a November start date and a 2005 release.TrackBack URL for this entry:

Over on nasawatch I noticed that alot of shuffling of managers internally and also of some leaving to other outside space companies is happening. Has the commission report started to clear some of the dead wood or is something else a foot.

This kind of sucks for me.
About a year ago I started writing a script entitled:
"War Of The Worlds"
I was writing it because it seems like we've not had a great alien invasion movie. Independence day was cool, but we never saw hordes of aliens actually in cities and such.
I remember telling my brother, "Can you imagine if Speilberg made a movie like this? I don't understand why hollywood hasnt made a movie like this yet".
Turns out they are going to do just that!
