An inflatable lifeboat could one day ferry stranded astronauts back to Earth, if a prototype's test flights are successful next month. The re-entry vehicle weighs just 130 kilograms and is being developed to carry cargo back from the International Space Station (ISS). But its inventors believe that it could also let astronauts bail out of the space station, or deliver robots to the surface of Mars.TrackBack URL for this entry:

If this actually works this could be the one thing that would make the hubble mission by a shuttle more possible to do.

Harold, what do you mean when saying it would help to save Hubble? The link doesn't work and I can't read the enrire article.

This article is about the possibility and implications of using it for a return flight back to Earth not only for experiments but also for a rescue pod. If one were placed onto a shuttle mission after being fully tested of course. Also if the shuttle were damaged and unrepairable then this allows for astronauts to be returned home safely in that event should this happen while doing a Hubble servicing mission.
