The Great (well, OK) Space Debate The Space Review

Posted by jburk to General News at October 18, 2004 12:58 PM

Thursday’s event was less a debate than a preview of what will happen to NASA after January 20, 2005...The participants in the debate reflected how space rated in both campaigns: while knowledgeable about space topics, neither Lori Garver, representing Kerry, nor Frank Sietzen, representing Bush, rank high in the hierarchy of either campaign organization.

From the Space.com article: "Exploration, she said later in the debate, would be ‘but one goal among many.’" -- Lets just pause and think about this one, shall we? What exactly is there worth while and public dollars to do up there in space ASIDE from exploration? Wait, I got it. "And I will call it my ‘Moonbase,’ and my giant insurgent-busting ‘Laser.’" ----- "Much of the debate between Garver and Sietzen centered on the question of whether the vision for human and robotic space exploration outlined by Bush in January should dominate NASA’s future. NASA faces ‘a huge risk we can lose what we have now if we do this one thing,’ Garver argued." -- Isn’t that just a poorly phrased way of saying we have more or less nothing to lose?
