The Mars Data Project released on December 20th the first in a series of low-priced CD-ROMs with RAW data from the Mars Pathfinder, Mars Global Surveyor and Mars Odyssey missions. Along with the data, the CD-ROM includes a selection of image processing and editing software and articles providing examples and techniques for processing the data into high-quality images for scientific analysis, searching for evidence of water, life, and/or simply to make great-looking images for artwork.

Each CD-ROM in the series will focus on specific data covering interesting regions of the planet Mars. Among the features covered by Volume One is the Cydonia region, home to the infamous "Face on Mars". Volume One contains images & raw data from the Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) on the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft and raw data from the THEMIS infrared imager on the Mars Odyssey, NASA's most recent Mars mission.
